Assessment and Diagnosis including initial appointment and online screening - £1,995
We provide an initial appointment to determine whether it is worth investing in an ASC assessment.
If we decide to assess, we use the ADOS-2 and ADI-R assessment tools, recognised in the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) Guidance as the ‘Gold Standard’ diagnostic tools.
If you are a teenager or adult, the assessment has three main parts. First, we will conduct a thorough clinical interview that will take up to four hours. We will then complete an observational assessment using the ADOS-2 which could take up to an hour. As Autism is a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition that would have been present from birth, we would also like to interview someone who can remember what you were like as a child. This is where we use the ADI-R; the interview will take around three hours.
When assessing for Autism in children, we would complete the ADOS-2 observational assessment with your child which takes around 45 minutes. You will be present during the observation. We would then have a separate appointment to complete the ADI-R three-hour interview with you as the parent.
In our view, the most important part of the journey is what happens after your assessment. You will be provided with a feedback meeting where the outcome of the assessment is fully explained, personalised to you/your child, and where you can ask questions. You will then receive a report detailing the assessment findings and a shorter letter that you can use as proof of diagnosis (or no diagnosis).
Following assessment, you have the option to further develop your insight and understanding by participating in our individualised post-diagnosis support or therapeutic support sessions.
Post-diagnosis support sessions help you make sense of your diagnosis, how it impacts you, and how you can adjust your life and environment to help your brain work more effectively.
Therapeutic support sessions use evidence-based psychological techniques to increase self-esteem, regulate emotions, and challenge unhelpful beliefs that often accompany living with neurodiversity.

For-Psych is a psychology-led service that uses psychological tools and therapies to assess and help people. We do not prescribe medication. However, should you wish to seek medication after working with us, we can refer you to our partner Psychiatrist for a review.
No! If you already have a diagnosis but want to learn more about what this means for you, and how you can reach your full potential because of your neurodiversity, then For-Psych can help. It would be useful to see your diagnostic report so that we can fully tailor the coaching sessions to your specific neurodivergent profile, but don’t worry, our experienced Practitioners can work this out with you if you do not have a report to hand. You won’t have to be diagnosed by us first to have access to our Coaching and Therapy Services.
Your For-Psych Psychologist will arrange a feedback session with you after they have written their report. They will go through the report with you during a one-hour disclosure meeting to make sure that you understand the outcome. You can have a family member with you if you want to, so that they can also hear the information and ask questions. You will be given a copy of your report to take with you, so that you can share this with your school/workplace, and GP, if you want to. As we are a Psychology service, we cannot prescribe medication. If you decide that you want to have medication to help with your diagnosis, we can recommend Private Psychiatrists who are experienced in supporting people with neurodiversity. If you would prefer an NHS Psychiatrist, you can share your report with your GP and ask for support. If you would like psychological support following a diagnosis, see our Coaching and Therapy Services for more information.
Please don’t worry, we’ve got this covered. After you have filled out our enquiry form, a member of our For-Psych team will email you some online surveys to complete. There is no charge for this service. The results will tell us which assessment(s) would be beneficial, and we will give you this information so that you can decide what happens next.
The short answer is yes! At For-Psych we only use Gold Standard, NICE approved diagnostic tools and procedures, just like the NHS! All our Practitioners are Registered Psychologists who must comply with the Health Care Professions Council guidelines and regulations. They have received full training in the diagnostic assessments and are competent to complete these. A thorough and detailed report is provided after every assessment, to help you, and those who work with you, to know yourself better. If you want to receive treatment from the NHS after your diagnosis with For-Psych, your GP will need to make a shared agreement of care. They might say that you will also need to be assessed by the NHS, but this should not hold up the support that you receive from them, and whilst sitting on the long NHS waiting list, you will know that your diagnosis from For-Psych has helped you to understand your strengths and difficulties whilst you wait.
At For-Psych we know how hard it can be to try and navigate life without a diagnosis. That’s why we’re committed to ensuring that you receive an efficient service from us. You can expect to meet with a Practitioner within six weeks of your initial enquiry. After the date of your assessment, you will receive a detailed report and feedback session within four weeks. This means that the process is complete within just 10 weeks of your initial enquiry.
Our years of professional and lived experience tells us that the answer to this question is yes! Neurodiversity is part of who we are and helps to explain why we are brilliant at some things, and why we really struggle in other areas of our lives. Understanding the root causes of your difficulties can help in so many ways. It can help to identify what support needs you have, why you may have struggled for many years in a particular area of your life, what that means for you, and what needs to be done to end the constant self-doubt and suffering that you may have experienced before a diagnosis. We have helped many people to understand themselves more, and the sense of relief that they feel when they finally get the answers that they need can help them to move on and finally believe in themselves. Having a diagnosis can be the key to unlocking your path. Fill out our enquiry form today!
