More than a diagnosis
Therapeutic support that sees the whole child, not just a diagnosis.
At For-Psych, we believe understanding your child is the beginning of positive change.
But sometimes, understanding isn't enough on its own.
Your child may be struggling with big emotions, sensory overwhelm, anxiety, sleep, school, relationships or everyday life. You may be trying everything you can think of and still feel stuck.
Sometimes you know something isn't quite right, but you don't know why. Sometimes you simply need someone who understands.
Our psychologists provide compassionate, neuro-affirmative therapeutic support for children, young people, parents and carers. We take time to understand the whole picture, not just the behaviour or diagnosis.
We get it
We bring professional expertise alongside a genuine understanding of neurodivergent experiences. For some members of our team, this understanding is also shaped by personal and lived experience.
We know that difficulties don't exist in isolation.
What looks like defiance might be overwhelm. What looks like avoidance might be anxiety. What looks like refusal might be a child who simply doesn't have the capacity to cope in that moment.
Sometimes the problem is the mismatch between the child and the world around them.
That's why we don't start with:
“How do we change this behaviour?”
We start with:
“What is happening here, and what might this child be trying to tell us?”
We take time to understand your child's strengths, experiences, needs, relationships, sensory world and unique way of understanding things.
Because when we understand what's underneath, we can find a different way forward.
Neuro-affirmative therapy
Our psychologists have particular expertise in neuro-affirmative therapy.
We see neurodivergence as an important part of who your child is. Our aim isn't to make children fit into a particular mould. It's to help them understand themselves, feel understood by others, develop ways of coping that work for them, and build a life that plays to their strengths.
Together, we can explore how neurodivergence may influence:
Therapy is never one-size-fits-all
Every child and family is different.
Our psychologists draw on a range of evidence-based approaches, adapting them to your child's individual needs, strengths, circumstances and goals.
We work with you, not by telling you what to do. We want to understand what's happening, what matters to your child and what you would like to be different.
This may include:
The approach matters less than finding something that makes sense for your child and your family.
Support for parents and carers
Being a parent or carer of a neurodivergent child can be rewarding, but it can also be exhausting, confusing and lonely.
You may be trying to understand big emotions, sensory overload, sleep difficulties, school challenges or behaviour that feels impossible to make sense of. You might also be carrying worry, frustration, guilt or exhaustion.
You don't have to figure it all out on your own.
Our therapeutic support gives you space to talk openly, make sense of your child's experiences and explore what might help.
Our aim isn't to tell you how to be a better parent. It's to help you feel more confident, connected and supported.
You don't need a diagnosis to ask for help
You don't need a diagnosis from For-Psych, or a diagnosis at all, to access therapeutic support.
You might already know your child is neurodivergent. You might be wondering whether they could be. Or you might simply know that something is difficult and you're not sure why.
You don't need to work that out before you contact us.
You know your child. We can help you understand what they might be communicating.
What happens when you start?
You don't need to arrive with a clear plan.
Your first session is a chance for us to listen and understand what life is like for you and your family. We'll explore:
Together, we'll decide what might be most helpful.
That's what we're here to help you work out.
Therapy that starts where you are
We don't believe everyone needs the same amount of support.
Sometimes one session is enough to help you think through something that's been troubling you. Sometimes you want several sessions, or longer-term support for more complex or longstanding challenges.
Our therapeutic support is therefore flexible and pay-as-you-go, with no requirement to commit to a fixed number of appointments.
You can book a single session or arrange further sessions depending on what feels right for you and your family.
Online or in person
We offer appointments in person in Cardiff or online by video call, so you can choose the format that works best for your family.
We can also take your individual preferences and sensory needs into account when considering how therapy is delivered.

Choose the level of psychological support that's right for you
At For-Psych, you can access therapeutic support with either a Trainee Psychologist or a Qualified Psychologist.
Both provide neurodiversity-informed psychological support within our values of compassionate, person-centred care.
Therapy with a Trainee Psychologist
Our Trainee Psychologists have experience delivering a range of psychological therapies under the supervision of our Qualified Psychologists. They bring up-to-date psychological knowledge, a warm and compassionate approach, and a genuine commitment to understanding neurodivergent experiences.
Therapy with a Qualified Psychologist
Our Qualified Psychologists have extensive professional experience supporting children, young people and families with a range of psychological and neurodivergent needs. They provide therapeutic support tailored to your child's circumstances and your family's goals.
Not sure what's right for you?
That's completely okay.
You don't need to know whether your child is neurodivergent, what type of therapy they need, or even whether therapy is the right thing.
If you're worried, overwhelmed or simply finding things difficult, we can start by listening.
We'll talk with you about what's happening, help you make sense of what might be going on, and explore what kind of support could be most helpful.
Sometimes the first step is simply having a conversation.
Ready to talk?
You don't need the right words.
You don't need a diagnosis.
You don't need to have everything worked out.
Just start with a conversation.
Speak to one of our psychologists before booking and we'll help you work out what might be right for you and your family.
