More than a diagnosis
For‑Psych is a specialist psychology service offering therapeutic and post‑diagnostic support for neurodiverse children, young people, adults, and families. Here are some important things to know:
- We believe that people are the experts of their own differences and do not require a diagnosis to work therapeutically.
- Our clinicians are trained in a range of evidence‑based therapeutic approaches and adapt each intervention to the person’s strengths, sensory profile, communication style, and lived experience.
- Our work is grounded in the belief that neurodiversity is a natural part of human variation. We focus on strengths, identity, and wellbeing; not fixing, masking, or changing who you are.
- You don’t need to have a diagnosis to access our support. Neither do you need to have had an assessment with us.
We offer therapy to create spaces where people can understand themselves, feel validated, and develop ways of living that feel authentic and sustainable. Our team supports:
- Children and young people navigating big emotions, sensory needs, and social pressures
- Adults making sense of a new or long-suspected diagnosis
- Parents and carers wanting to understand and support their child
- Individuals experiencing anxiety, low mood, burnout, or overwhelm
- People exploring identity, unmasking, and self-acceptance
Every person’s experience is different. We tailor our approach to your needs, preferences, and strengths.
Support for parents and carers
You are not a bad parent or carer if your child is experiencing problems. A neurodivergent diagnosis can bring relief, questions, and uncertainty. We offer support to help you understand your child’s needs and feel confident in responding to them.
Our work with parents and carers may include:
- What a diagnosis means for their child
- How to understand tricky moments and challenging behaviour
- Managing sensory needs, emotional regulation, and executive functioning
- How to advocate for their child at school or in services
- How to support sleep and daily routines
- Many neurodiverse children need different approaches, and our work often begins by supporting parents and carers in understanding what is going on behind the behaviour. We draw on
- Therapeutic parenting principles, including PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy), to help strengthen connection and reduce distress.
We aim to create a space where you can be fully yourself without judgement or pressure to “fit in”.
Our therapeutic approach
We adapt evidence-based models to be accessible and meaningful for neurodiverse clients. This may include:
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy
- Compassion Focused Therapy
- Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy
- Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
- Sensory-informed strategies
- Strengths-based approaches
Therapy is always paced carefully, with an emphasis on safety, collaboration, and respect for neurodiverse ways of experiencing the world.
What to expect
Your first appointment is an opportunity to get to know you, understand your goals, and decide together what support will be most helpful. We will explore:
- What brings you to therapy
- What you hope to understand or change
- Your strengths, interest and preferences
- Any sensory and communication needs
- What a comfortable and safe space looks like for you
From there, we agree on a plan that feels manageable and supportive.
